Emergency Department

At Park Ridge Health, we know that your time is valuable. And, when life presents an emergency, no matter how big or small, you shouldn't have to wait for expert care.

About the Park Ridge Health Emergency Department

Our emergency department is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to meet the needs of people with all types of emergencies. An emergency physician is on duty at all times.

If requested, a private physician with privileges at Park Ridge Health can be called for consultation, treatment recommendations or if admission is needed.

The emergency department also maintains a daily list of specialty practice physicians who can be consulted, as needed. If a patient requires a specialty that is not offered at Park Ridge Health, such as neurosurgery or cardiac surgery, transfer arrangements will be made.

Generally, visitors are limited to one person per patient due to the privacy of other patients and to allow the emergency department staff to focus on the patient. Additional visitors are allowed to enter at the discretion of the nursing staff based on the patient's need.

Triage Services

The nursing staff uses a system called triage, a French term meaning "to sort." This determines how patients are prioritized for care. The most critical or potentially- critical patients are seen first. Upon arrival, an RN assesses all patients to determine who should be seen first.

Fast Track Services

For less urgent emergencies, we are happy to offer you Fast Track services from 2:00 p.m. through 12:00 a.m., seven-days a week. This special service allows you and your loved ones to receive care from one of our highly-trained emergency department medical staff at a faster pace, in our specially-designated Fast Track area.

Admittance to the Fast Track service is determined upon arrival to the emergency department and reviewed by our admitting nurse.

Emergency Department Billing

Your hospital and physician bill are separate. You will also receive a separate bill for the radiologist if you have x-rays, or from the pathologist for any lab tests. Typically, each specialty does its own billing.
