Park Ridge Health Cancer Services

Park Ridge Health Cancer Services is part of a wide network of cancer care services designed to offer the latest technologies and highest quality physician care. This network includes Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and hospital-based care. These services are provided through Asheville Hematology and Oncology, 21st Century Oncology and the Park Ridge Health system. By teaming together, and with locations in several Western North Carolina counties, these experts are able to bring state-of-the-art care to our patients where they live.

Park Ridge Health operates infusion centers in three locations: Park Ridge Health Infusion Center in Hendersonville, Asheville Infusion Center and Haywood Infusion Center in Clyde. In November, 2014, a fourth location will be added in Weaverville. Designed with the patient’s comfort in mind, the infusion centers provide infusions of the latest chemotherapy drugs and newly-developed medical breakthroughs, including access to clinical research trials, anti-angiogenesis therapy, immunotherapy and biotherapeutics. Infusion therapies such as IV antibiotics, arthritis infusions, iron infusions and therapeutic phlebotomy are also available.

Cancer rehabilitation services help the patient and family remain as independent as possible throughout the continuum of care. These services help patients cope with the activities of daily living and enable them to resume normal activities. These services include therapies, nutritional support, and a dedicated social worker.

Park Ridge Health Cancer Services has been awarded national accreditation by The Commission on Cancer (COC) and the American College of Surgeons and had also won the Outstanding Achievement Award for a first-time program. Park Ridge Health was the first hospital in Western North Carolina to win this award and at that time was one of only 66 other hospitals in the U.S. to obtain it. This highly-coveted award is a tribute to physician and staff teamwork and has established Park Ridge Health Cancer Services as a leader in providing quality cancer care.

Education and Early Detection

Education and early detection are critical when it comes to preventing and caring for patients with cancer diagnoses. When cancers are detected at an early stage, chances of survival greatly improve. Advanced technology such as digital mammography and the Light Speed CT scanner facilitate early detection.  Each year, we offer educational programs about cancer prevention. Genetic Testing

We offer genetic testing for people with or at risk for breast, colon or ovarian cancer. Patients already diagnosed with cancer- or those with a strong family history of cancer- may choose to be tested to determine if they possess genes that could be passed on to their children.  Please note that this testing, which can cost up to $3,000, is not covered by Medicaid or by many insurance companies. People who have been identified as "at-risk" are encouraged to start cancer screening at an early age to increase survival rates.
