Behavioral Health

Park Ridge Health HOPE programs offer a full range of behavioral and mental health services to assist women and older adults through life's difficult transitions. These programs provide patient-centered care founded on a Christian commitment to treat every person with dignity and respect.

Individual, group and family therapy are tailored to the needs of each our guests. All guest rooms, located within Park Ridge Health, are private and feature views of the surrounding western North Carolina mountains.

The HOPE Women's Program

The HOPE Women's Program at Park Ridge Health offers a full range of psychiatric services, including treatment for:

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Trauma
  • Co-dependency
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Eating disorders
  • Dissociative identity disorders.

Treatment encourages empowerment of women to achieve self awareness, develop coping skills and redirect ineffective patterns of behavior. All of our guests receive individual and group therapy and medicine management therapy.

Eating disorder guests, additionally, will be placed on Eating Disorder Protocol and will have consultations with a dietician.

The HOPE Geropsychiatric Program

The HOPE Geropsychiatric Program specifically addresses the mental health needs of men and women aged 65 and older. The program offers treatment for:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Delirium
  • Psychosis
  • Other behavioral or cognitive dysfunction

Treatment includes individual and group therapies and Medicine Management to improve an individual's ability to live independently or to function comfortably in an institutional setting. Because many older adults with behavioral or cognitive disorders also suffer physical distress, all of our guests receive a comprehensive assessment of medication regimens, physical and psychiatric diagnoses and functional abilities.

The HOPE Medical Psychiatric Program

The HOPE Medical Psychiatric Program is designed to meet both the physical and psychiatric needs of adults aged 65 and older. This medical unit is equipped to address complicated medical problems, with total access to the consulting medical staff and resources within Park Ridge Health.

In considering a referral to this unit, the client must present psychiatric or behavioral issues, with significant secondary medical issues, at the time of admission. Treatment includes:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Individual and group therapies
  • Medicine Management

Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs

The Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs of Park Ridge Health System provides day treatment and support for individuals who are dealing with anxiety, panic, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, trauma, grief and loss. A typical day may include therapy groups, educational classes, psychiatric evaluations, medication management and individual and family counseling. Each person develops their own personal strategy for coping with problems and stress, improving their quality of life and promoting wellness.

How do I know if this program is for me?

  • I feel depressed and sad most of the day, nearly everyday.
  • I can’t sleep or I want to sleep all the time, nearly everyday.
  • I’m unable to think, concentrate or make decisions.
  • I have excessive anxiety and find it difficult to control my worries.
  • I’ve recently had a change in my appetite.
  • I cry easily and feel hopeless.
  • I feel overwhelmed and unable to cope with my work and home responsibilities.
  • I feel irritable and other people tell me I’m short-tempered. My relationships are in turmoil.
  • I’ve lost interest in almost all activities and I spend a lot of time alone.
  • I see my therapist once a week and my psychiatrist every couple of months and I need additional support without going into the hospital.
  • I recently was discharged from the hospital and need more support as I transition back to home and work.

PHP and IOP is not appropriate for persons whose psychiatric illness is so severe they cannot function safely in the community or for persons with a primary diagnosis of substance abuse.
